Cormorant Garamond

A high contrast Garamond, set large and in italic for titles so the words read like a film title burned onto the frame. It is quiet at rest and cinematic at scale. The letterforms carry emotion before they carry information, which is the whole point of an image first piece.

Body

EB Garamond

An elegant book serif with a warm, literary cadence. Read mostly in italic inside a translucent overlay, it feels like the caption text in a photo essay: a quiet voice speaking over the image, never a wall of print.

Base body size 10.6pt.

Signature devices

Full bleed photo page
The photograph runs edge to edge with no margin and is the page itself. Everything else sits on top of it.
Burned in title
A giant italic Garamond title laid directly across the image at partial opacity, blended into the photograph like a film title (the In Extremis move).
Overlay scrim panel
A soft, semi transparent dark panel anchored to a corner, holding a small heading and a short caption sized body. The quiet overlay, never a hard block.
Quiet caption body
Short italic serif body read as a caption over the image, with generous leading and a narrow measure so it never becomes a wall of text.
Cool grey hairline
Desaturated cool grey rules pulled from the photography do the structural work in place of gold. Fine, low contrast, atmospheric.
Big numeral metric band
Large light numerals across a thin band, restrained and tonal, for the one figure worth remembering inside a mood piece.

Design theory

Mood

Cinematic, atmospheric, restrained, warm dark. A film still that happens to carry a sentence. Gravity and quiet, never loud.

When to use

EPC branding mood pieces, org profile covers, vision and positioning statements, social assets, anything whose first job is to set a tone. Use when there is a strong photograph and the message is felt before it is read.

Avoid

Dense reports, data tables as the main event, anything that needs many figures or long reading on one page. If the content is mostly numbers or procedure, use a quiet institutional preset instead. Never let the overlay text become a full block: if the words fill the panel, the photo has lost the page.
